AREN’T ALL RELIGIONS THE SAME?
At the heart of the
Christian answer to this question are two things: the events of
the life, death and resurrection of Jesus, and the other claims
that the Bible makes for the uniqueness of Jesus.
THE UNIQUENESS OF CHRIST (See also
"Is Jesus God?")
Christ’s teaching and
His claims: see John 6:35, 8:10, 11:25-26, 20:28.
Christ’s loving actions:
miracles, healings, forgiving sins.
Christ’s loving and
sinless character: 1 Peter 2:22-25.
Christ’s death to pay
the penalty for sin: Mark 10:45; 2 Corinthians 5:20-21
Christ’s glorious
resurrection: He is the ONLY Risen Saviour! Romans 1:1-4; 1
Corinthians 15:5-8.
Consider how these words
of Jesus Himself in John 14:6 contradict the
suggestion that all religions are the same?
"I am the way, the truth and the life.
No-one comes to the Father except through me"

NO “BACK DOOR INTO HEAVEN”
Some
people think that Romans 2:1-16 gives hope that there can be
some people who are not saved through faith in Christ, but
rather by living good lives “according to their own lights.” As
long as they haven’t actually rejected Christ, as long as they
have done their best, some believe that such people will still
be saved. We talked about this “myth of the godly heathen” or
“the false hope of the sinless pagan”.
This passage does NOT
teach that some people live a good enough life to be saved. In
fact it shows that every person knows enough about God to be
justly condemned for rejecting Him (Romans 1:18-20). Equally,
because we are created in the image of God (Genesis 1:26-27)
every person has “a law for themselves written on their
hearts” (Romans 2:13-14) so they know the difference between
right and wrong. Every person also has a conscience
(Romans 2:15) which seeks to direct them to do good not evil. So
every human being is responsible before God and accountable to
Him. And all fall short of God’s demands of perfection (Romans
2:5-6, 9-10, 12.) “There is no-one who is righteous, not even
one.” (Romans 3:10-23). This includes followers of all
other religions, however sincere, devout or godly they may be.
Christ is the ONLY way of salvation, the only hope! |
